The beautiful tourist and farming town, known for its ancient history dating back to Roman times, is now celebrated in this thematic series about "natural and landscape heritage".
The stamp features Albenga's early Christian Baptistery with Bell Tower of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo and the Clock Tower of the Diocesan Museum.
Originally Roman Albingaunum, rich in history and farm products, Albenga is a tourist and agricultural town, famous for the purple asparagus - a slow food presidium, Albenga artichoke, and heirloom tomato.
Walking in the historic center’s streets, one can still see the old walls and, coming from the sea or Via Aurelia, from a distance, one can spot the medieval towers right away. One of the towers now hosts the Albenga Civic Museum (Museo civico di Albenga).
Besides its rich history, one can enjoy Albenga’s beautiful coast: long beaches of golden sand, restaurants serving delicious fresh fish, and, on windy days, the bay opening up on Gallinara island, ideal for surf lovers.
Albenga, and its inland hamlet Salea, are also known for Pigato wine, to which an annual festival held at Salea is dedicated.
