Spotlights on 2016 Vele d’Epoca Panerai which began in Imperia on September 7th with a widely attended ceremony at the presence of civil and military authorities, as well as Giulia Emmolo and Giulia Gorlero - Rio de Janeiro Olympics water polo silver medal winners.

Vele d’Epoca celebrates 30 years and, for this special occasion, some of the boats participating in the first edition in 1986 are back. Alzavola, Caroly, Mariette, Vistona are participating as well as Eilean, Rhea and Latifa – 80 years old - while Chinook and Rowdy celebrate a century of life at sea.

On Thursday, the first racing day, boat Emilia was awarded first place in the Marconi 3 ranking, with a real-time of 1.56.37.

Emilia - owned by J.F. Kennedy among others - was commissioned by Senator Giovanni Agnelli in 1929 and later armed as Marconi schooner, for mixed cruiser-racer use. After racing in major competitions, Emilia was restored in 1988 and then purchased by the current owner, who brought it back to its original rig. To this date, Emilia is the oldest boat in the Italian Yacht Club and is bearer of The Yachting Heritage Society Monaco Association.

Vele d’Epoca runs until Sunday, with the beautiful Vele d'Epoca Classic Boat Parade and final awards.
