Imperia: 30 years of Vele d'Epoca in September

Taking place this year from September 7th to 11th, Vele d'Epoca in Imperia is undoubtedly one of the most important events of its kind in the Mediterranean and a strong sailing tradition.

Established in 1986, the Imperia Vintage Yacht Challenge (Vele d'Epoca) soon became an important date in the calendar of events dedicated to historical boats. Many of the main regatta and pleasure crafts from the first half of the last century meet at the beginning of September. From its eighth year, the Imperia Classic Yachts Challenge has become a biennial occurrence, taking place in even years, alternating with the Porto Rotondo Vintage Yachts event. In fact, Vele d'Epoca took place last in Imperia in 2014.

This year, many of the boats that participated at Voile d'Antibes are also already enrolled at Vele d'Epoca in September.

During the years, the regatta entered in other International Challenges and in 2006, as Officine Panerai became Sponsor of Vele d’Epoca, was included in the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, representing its third stage. It is thanks to this synergy that Imperia, every two years, represents a point of reference for these extraordinary classic boats.

A special atmosphere unfolds in the Mediterranean sea during the race as well as in the old fisherman harbor of Marina di Porto Maurizio and in the whole city of Imperia throughout the day. The town fills up with many tourists, amateurs and classic boat lovers. The quay swarms with people that look forward to get closer to these Queens of the Sea, real jewels, and get to know their story.

Races begin in the morning and in the evening many events will entertain visitors and crews alike. In fact, Vele d'Epoca is an event that never stops, day at sea and on land in the evening with concerts, exhibitions and many more activities for people of all ages.
