Coming February 5th a stamp celebrating Monaco's Roseraie, the famous rose garden, recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Excellence in 2015.
The stamp's value is € 0.70 and will be on sale at the Office des Emissions de Timbres-Poste, Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies, at the station and at the Principality's stamp office, as well as at the Musée de la Poste and Carré in Paris.
The Roseraie Princess Grace first opened in 1984, as Prince Rainier III wanted to create a place in memory of his wife Princess Grace – Grace Kelly. Princess Grace is commemorated in a statue by Kees Verkade in the rose garden.
More than 30 years later, the new Rose Garden is much larger, with a surface area of 5,000 m2. Keeping the charm of the original garden, it now has 8,000 rose bushes and 300 different varieties, such as the rose of the Grimaldi Royal Family and roses named after Princes and Princesses and celebrities.
After extensive renovations in 2014, the Princess Grace Rose Garden was awarded the "Espace végétal écologique" or eco-friendly green space label in 2015. It also received the Award of Garden Excellence 2015, as the unanimous choice of the World Federation of Rose Societies at the 17th World Convention of Rose Societies, held in Lyon in 2015. The Princess Grace Rose Garden was selected from among 500 participants for its original design, the number of rosebushes planted, the varieties of rose, the quality with which it is maintained, and its public appeal.
