The National Fair of the Brown (Fiera nazionale del Marrone) will take place in Cuneo from the 16th to the 19th of October 2014.
Owing to the roadworks affecting the historic centre of the city, this edition will be held mainly in Cuneo's squares: Piazza Galimberti and Piazza Virginio this year will host a greater number of stands and some laboratories, while some breweries will be located in the Audiffredi square. In Piazza Torino the Confartigianato Pavillion which presents the theme of the year, "metals", will be set up.
The first editions of the National Fair of the Brown were organized around the end of the 1930s, and saw as an absolute protagonist the chestnut (from which the Fair takes its name): Cuneo was one of the most important centres in relation to the product at the time, thanks to the rich chestnut woods located nearby the town.
The Fair was cancelled during the Second World War, and it started again in 1999: it was a great success, with more than 100 thousands visitors, many of them foreigners.
The tradition continues year after year, and, apart from the chestnuts, the Fair is also a very important showcase for both local food products and local handicrafts more in general.
